House Style Guidelines to Article Creation for Member Contributions into "Outcrop"

To ensure consistency and ease of formatting across all contributions to "Outcrop", please follow these guidelines when preparing articles.
There is a sample WSGS House Style Template Document on the web site which you can download and use for editing to assist you in following some of the guidelines below.

General Formatting

  • Submit all articles in Microsoft Word .docx format.
  • Use single line spacing throughout.
  • All text should be in Times New Roman font.
  • All text should be left-aligned.
  • Main body text to have a font-size of 10pt.
  • Use of Bold or Italic type-faces are acceptable, though please use sparingly.
  • Do not use M-S Word paragraph spacing, instead insert a blank line between paragraphs.

Headings and Subheadings

  • Main Heading : font-size 16pt, bold, no full stop.
  • Subheadings : font-size 12pt, bold, no full stop.

Author Details

  • Author's name should appear in font-size 12pt, bold, no full stop.

Article Content

  • Do not include a full stop after titles such as "Dr" or "Mr".
  • For meeting reports, include only the month and year (e.g., September 2025).
  • For field trips, include the full date and day of the week (e.g., Wednesday, 10th September 2025). Note ordinal suffix not to be superscripted.

Images and Figures

  • Ensure all necessary permissions are obtained before submission.
  • Do not include images featuring children.
  • Provide captions for all images separately at the end of the main text.
  • Captions should be in font-size 9pt, type-face italics & not bold, and no full stop.
  • Label any image references in the text body as "Figure n".
  • Submit images, charts, figures or graphs as separate files.
  • Do not embed them yourself in the document.
    But indicate clearly where each should be placed within the text.
  • Do not resize or manipulate images.
  • Scanned photographs should be at least 600 dpi or higher.
  • Ensure, as best as possible, that any text within images is legible when printed on an A5 page.

At the end of the article, list any sources or references in the following format :
Author's name, Publication Title, page(s), Date of publication.
