West Sussex Geological Society

Outcrop is the formal magazine produced by the WSGS for society members twice yearly. Currently printed in A5 format combining all things Geological and Earth Sciences.
It combines articles, wittiscisms, musings submitted not only by committee members, but also by general society members, whose article inclusion is actively encouraged.
So if you have anything Geological / Earth Sciences that you wish to share then contribute to the next edition of "Outcrop". This can be a simple one-liner joke, an anecdote, musings on geology, a small summary discussion or even a full-blown article. Everything is welcome -- just contact any committee member or email the Outlook Magazine Editor whose details are on the Contact-Us Page.
To aid in the preparation of submissions / articles a preference guide to our page details and layout is available to view on our Online Resources Page and is available to download on our Downloads Page. A useful "template" is also available to view on our Online Resources Page and is also available to download on our Downloads Page. This template can be the basis for modifications as it lays out all the page details for editing. So please pitch in to spread individual knowledge to your fellow members. Remember it is a Magazine for Members by Members.
The magazine also contains synopses of recent monthly face-to-face talks and meetings, variously written up by society members.
Most field trip outings are also reported in "Outcrop", including the weekend field trips that have included Dorset in 2019, the Isle of Wight in 2022, the Brecon Beacons in 2023, the Peak District in 2024 and most recently East Kent in 2025, (previous field trips have been to Derbyshire, Shropshire, Forest of Dean, Dartmoor, Anglesey, Yorkshire, Cornwall and Guernsey).
The magazine is available to all society members either in printed A5 format and can be picked up at society meetings, or digitally in pdf format. It is free of charge to members as part of the annual membership fee.
Back copies of Outcrop are only available digitally, for download, here on the For Members Page. It should be noted that membership sign-in will be required to download any previous copy, though there is no charge for this.
