A walk to examine the fine examples of building stones in Guildford High Street, which will start at 10.30am outside the White House pub, 8 High Street GU2 4AJ and is planned to take approximately 90 minutes to 2 hours. (Under a mile long, on pavement and some cobbles - it may be suitable for some people with lesser mobility).

Seeing Underneath our Feet – Exploring Earth and it's Sustainable Resources
Dr Nicola Scarselli
Nicola will present how curiosity has long driven our desire to understand the internal workings of our planet.
The ability to see beneath our feet has become fundamental to the development of our societies.
Nicola will focus on how a subsurface imaging method called Reflection Seismic has transformed our understanding of the Earth, and how it will continue to guide us in the search for sustainable resources.

Hidden in Stone, currently open & running at Portsmouth Natural History Museum Cumberland House in Southsea until the middle of August, is free to visit and has been developed with partners including the University of Southampton and the University of Portsmouth.
The exhibition takes visitors on a journey through 200 million years of the South's history bringing together fossils, artefacts and life-size models.
It is organised into five themes, Jurassic Seas, Dinosaurs Roam, Chalk Seas, Tropical Hampshire and Frozen Britain, and features specimens from across southern England, including from Lyme Regis, the Isle of Wight and Hastings.
Visitors can see dinosaur skulls, casts of marine reptiles, and early human tools, alongside shark teeth, ammonites and other finds. Many items come from the council's Natural History Collection and are rarely on public display.

We are a Local Group of the Geologists' Association (GA); therefore we can attend any of their lectures or field trips at a minimal cost.
Details of their field trips are available online at the Geologists' Association and their Magazines are sometimes available at our meetings located on the entrance table.
If you cannot find any, then please ask a committee member.
The Geologists' Association holds a combined Ancillary Policy with the Zurich Insurance Company through which the West Sussex Geological Society members are insured.
On any field trip in quarries or cliff exposures you are required to wear helmets and high visibility jackets.
Hi-Vis is always advised whatever the location.
Goggles must be worn when hammering and suitable footwear be worn at all times.
A Risk Assessment is completed before any Local or Residential Field Trip.
